Sentosa Golf Club, Serapong Course Description:
(No. 79 among the world’s best golf courses and home to the Singapore Open)
The Sentosa Golf Club, Serapong Course is a challenging par-72 and was awarded the 'Number 1 Championship Golf course in Asia' by Asian Golf Monthly in 2007 and 'Best Golf Course in Singapore' by Golf Digest in 2009. It ranks number 79 among the world’s best golf courses, one of the top five championship courses in Asia, and home of the Singapore Open.
Designed by Ronald Fream, the Serapong Course opened in 1982 and measures 6,675 meters from the championship tees. In 2007, Golfplan’s, Fream, Dale & Ramsey implemented a total renovation in course design including new bunker complexes, as well as faster and more challenging greens. Other Serapong Course design features include fairway mounding, large lakes with stone-lined walls, and scenery of downtown Singapore.
The Serapong Course is all about strategy with bunkering that frames the landing areas on most holes. Greens are also well guarded making for some tucked pin locations on the undulated complexes.
The Serapong course’s 3rd hole is a standout. At 439 meters, it is the first hole that takes you around the loop of the front nine with great views of the Singapore harbor. A perfect downhill tee shot to a narrow fairway that also features a tree in the middle of the landing area is required to have an angle into the green. Most will be prudent to use a fairway wood off the tee as accuracy improves par chances.
The back nine’s best hole is the Par 4 15th. It’s the number 1 handicap and plays long at 393 meters. The curving forces players to drive down the right side of the fairway and avoid the Singapore Harbor left.
Sentosa Golf Club, Serapong Course is a buggy only track. However, caddie services available in advance is useful for visiting golfers. The large clubhouse sports several dining establishments as well as the typical pro shop and locker rooms.
