Amverton Cove Golf & Island Resort Description:
(enjoyable Ted Parslow designed course)
The 18-hole Ted Parslow designed layout at Amverton Cove is located on Carey Island and opened for play in 2013. The course can be reached from Kuala Lumpur in around 50 minutes by highway.
Amverton Cove is both challenging yet fair at the same time. The overall style is links-like and relatively flat in a refreshing natural setting. Each hole uses natural features to frame the fairway while creating mounding and bunkering protests the greens.
This course design features such as strategically located lakes, ponds, mangroves and other plantings amidst a picturesque landscape make it suitable for golfers who love playing amid nature.
Mangrove forests border or cross six holes. Hole 4 features an impressive 70-meter boardwalk to back tees. The walk through the tidal forest often allows golfers to get up close to local birds, crabs, and other jungle creatures. Lakes come into view or play on 17 holes, creating many beautiful sights.
For top golfers, the layout requires every club in the bag during the round. Many holes have collection areas so putting from off the green and well-executed bump and run shots are needed to recover and score well.
Amverton generally has good Bermuda grass fairways, with some bare patches here and there. Greens, for the most part, have only gentle slopes, making putting reasonably straightforward. Rough is close-cut and poses no real challenge. Bunkers have the right amount of sand in them as well.
The signature hole is the par-4 18th, where a 220-yard carry is needed to cross a large lake. Other memorable parts of the layout include both par-5’s on the back nine which are reachable in 2.
The clubhouse is adequate, but nothing special. In fact, skip the clubhouse restaurant after golfing in favor of some excellent local seafood down the road and nearby.
