Evergreen Hills Golf Club & Resort Description:
(parkland course in a wooded valley)
Evergreen Hills Golf Club & Resort is located in a heavily wooded highland valley of Kanchanaburi province and near to the Burmese border. The climate in the area is mild and offers generally pleasant and cooler temperatures compared to other areas of Thailand.
An hour South of Kanchanaburi and around 1.5 hours North of Hua Hin, this Thai golf resort is mainly used by locals and expatriates. However, it is well worth a visit for foreign golfers looking for a hidden gem off the beaten path. Not only is the course well designed, but the conditions are remarkably good for such a remotely located golf course. Tee boxes, fairway, and greens are kept in excellent condition and in fact several Thai professional golf events have been held at Evergreen Hills.
The 18-hole, par-72 course was designed by At-anan Yomchinda and opened in 1994. At 6,879 yards it is not overly long, but still will provide a challenge for golfers of all abilities. The fairways are narrow and lined with 18 different species of tree species while many of the greens have steep slopes. Bunkers come in to play on most holes. Accuracy is more rewarded then length at Evergreen Hills.
The most difficult holes are the 16th and 17th as both have water surrounded island greens. Hole 17, a par-4, is also one of several tricky doglegs at Evergreen Hills with water encroaching on both sides of the hole.
Unfortunately, the clubhouse, on-site resort, and other facilities are no match for the golf course and better suited or locals. Overseas golf visitors will have better luck playing at Evergreen Hills and staying elsewhere. Staff is also local, so except little in the way of English from the starters or caddies. That being said, service is carried out with a smile.
In spite of any negatives, Evergreen Hills should be considered by anyone visiting Kanchanaburi, and even for those from Hua Hin looking for something different. This course is maintained to a high standard and offers lots of natural obstacles in a scenic countryside setting.
